Giles Cowell got a taste of the junior college last winter, winning a match at the NJCAA National Championships. Saturday he continued his trek back there, with a second place finish at the Muskie Scramble in Plymouth, Wisc.
That paced Ellsworth Community College's performance that included five other placings in the round robin format.
Cowell opened at 174 with a 19-10 major decision over Carthage College's Collin Ruiz before pinning Diego Snell-Martinez of Milwaukee School of Engineering in 6:07. He followed that with a bye then dropped a 12-7 decision to Jackson Hughes of Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Freshman Joshua Berlin took third at 157 after going 2-2 on the day. He pinned Wisconsin-Oshkosh's Jacob Hibbard in 2:31 to start. He picked up a medical forfeit after being majored in the second round. His day ended with a technical fall loss.
Tyler Roper, 133, was the only other Panther to win a match. He went 2-2, with pins against Nathan Schanen of Lakeland and Alexander Ramirez of Milwaukee School of Engineering.
