Iowa Western Puts Clamps on Panthers

IOWA FALLS, IOWA -- Iowa Western CC scored on 5 of its 6 offensive drives in the 1st half, all after a lengthy weather delay, and the Reivers used a strong defensive effort to defeat Ellsworth CC, 42-7, at Cadet Field on Saturday.

Around 2 minutes into the game lightning in the area forced officials to delay the game, a delay that lasted for over 2 hours.  Once play resumed Iowa Western put up 35 first-half points.  The scoring barrage was interrupted only by a Brycen Davis-to-Michael Walker touchdown pass that accounted for ECC's only points.  Joel Lacey added the extra point.  Davis completed a 22-yard pass to Dominic McCarren to highlight the drive, which culminated with the scoring toss to Walker from 12 yards out.

After taking a 35-7 lead at the half, Iowa Western's lone 2nd half score came when they blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone.

The Reivers' defense dominated.  They held Ellsworth to 80 yards of offense, only 6 of those yards on the ground.  ECC committed 6 turnovers, 5 of which were interceptions, and IWCC recorded 9 sacks.

Alex Clue hauled in 4 passes for 26 yards for ECC.  McCarren caught 2 balls for 25 yards and Jaali Parker 2 for 18.

On the defensive side, Adrian Palos had an early fumble recovery, Robert Harris picked off a pass, Sean Martin and Rayden Berry both recovered fumbles, and Jaiden Tandy had a sack and led the Panthers with 7 tackles.

Ellsworth goes on the road next Saturday to take on Coffeyville CC.
