Panthers' Big Passing Day Not Enough Against Iowa Central

FORT DODGE, IOWA -- Despite a huge game by quarterback Joshua Bauer and a spectacular effort by wide receiver Malcolm Gillie the Ellsworth Panthers saw Iowa Central recover after trailing in the second quarter to notch a 66-32 win over ECC on Saturday afternoon.

Bauer threw for 382 yards and connected on 4 TD passes to Gillie, the sophomore receiver hauling in 9 receptions for 183 yards.  Bauer also hooked up with David Hall for 5 catches and 93 yards and his other TD toss.  But the Panthers did all of their damage offensively through the air, held to minus-33 yards rushing.

A Bauer to Gillie TD pass just 4 minutes into the game gave the Panthers an early lead.  The Tritons answered with 17 straight points before ECC took a 19-17 lead against the No. 8 ranked Tritons in the 2nd quarter when Bauer and Gillie hooked up from 8 yards out.  Iowa Central, though, got a go-ahead score late in the 1st half, and then scored 6 second-half touchdowns as they took control.  Quarterback Zach Marker came off the bench at halftime to lead the second-half explosion for ICCC, throwing 3 TD passes in the 3rd period.

Ellsworth's big plays weren't only by the Bauer-Gillie duo.  Jaylin Vaughn returned an interception 83 yards, DaMyles Clark Tate, who snared 6 passes for 73 yards, also grabbed an interception and Jaden Davis and Elijah Johnson both recorded sacks.

Dominic McCarren grabbed 3 passes good for 35 yards and Aghogho Eyafe and Chris Ndushabandi also had receptions.

Jace Aguiniga led the tackle chart for ECC with 9, one more than Kmari WatsonDan Knudsen had a fumble recovery.

The Panthers stay on the road next Saturday with a trip to Council Bluffs to battle Iowa Western CC.
