ECC Women Notch First-Ever ICCAC Dual Victory

IOWA FALLS, IOWA -- The Ellsworth CC women's wrestling team achieved its first-ever conference dual meet win on Wednesday night, knocking off Iowa Lakes, 23-21, Dittmer Gym.

Gracie Orr's pin at 235 pounds in the final match of the dual pushed the Panthers to the victory.  Orr piled up a big lead thanks to 4 takedowns before finishing off her opponent with a fall in 2:41.  That was one of 4 wins for ECC.

In the first contested match Melonie Barillas got things started for Ellsworth with a pin at 109 pounds.  Shaylee Van Den Berg won by tech fall, 12-2, at 136 after Kiley Langley won by forfeit.  Emma Stephenson blanked her opponent at 155, 10-0, for the other decision for ECC.

The dual was the first for Ellsworth interim head coach Nate Alvarez, who took over for Victor Coronado after Coronado resigned as head coach on Sunday.

The Panthers will travel to Crete, Nebraska, this Saturday for the Doane Open.
