ECC Volleyball Has Good Tourney Showing

ROCHESTER, MINNESOTA -- For the 2nd time already this season, the Ellsworth volleyball team took all 4 matches in a tournament, this one an invitational hosted by Rochester Community and Technical College.  The Panthers won their 1st 3 matches in 3 sets and the final one over Harper (IL) College in 4 sets.  ECC knocked off the host school 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-16), NIACC (25-12, 25-21, 25-15) and Southwestern CC (25-20, 25-18, 25-16) and, after losing the opening set to Harper, 25-21, came back to take the next 3, (25-22-25-21, 25-14).

Sofia Betteni led the way at the net in the 1st match with 14 kills and Natalie See added 9.  Dallymar Panell had 27 assists, Ana Clara Cuartero served 5 of the team's 11 aces, and the Panthers totaled 76 digs with 5 in double-figures, led by Ludine Charron and Manon Morillon with 17 each.

In the match with NIACC, the stats leaders were Cuartero with 8 kills, Panell with 26 assists, Betteni with 12 digs and Morillon with 4 aces.

Betteni and Cuartero both recorded 10 kills against SWCC.  Panell had 32 assists, Charron registered 15 digs and Betteni 14, and Morillon had 4 ace serves.

The Panthers ended the sweep against Harper and Panell added 35 assists to her weekend total, giving her 120 for the 4 matches.  Betteni and Cuartero paced ECC with 12 and 10 kills, respectively.  Ellsworth had its 2nd highest digs total for the season and Charron had 18 of her team's 81, with Cuartero adding 16, Panell 15 and Betteni 13, to go along with her 3 blocks.

Ellsworth has back-to-back home matches this week against the Wartburg JV on Monday and NIACC on Wednesday.
