ECC Goes to DMACC Volleyball Tournament

BOONE, IOWA -- Ellsworth won one volleyball match and lost the other three by 3-1 scores at a tourney hosted by DMACC over the weekend.  The Panthers victory came against Glen Oaks CC from Michigan, whom they defeated by identical scores of 25-23 in the straight-set win.  That was one of the Saturday matches.  The other saw NIACC spot Ellsworth the first set (25-23) and then come back and take the next three, 25-8, 25-22, 25-19.

On Friday, ECC was beaten by Iowa Lakes CC with scores of 25-17, 27-25, 18-25, 25-17.  Metropolitan CC also took down Ellsworth by winning three straight sets (25-20, 25-17, 25-11) after a Panther 25-21 win in the opening set.

Against Iowa Lakes, Haley Forge had a double-double with 14 kills and 16 digs.  Nuria Bravo Santos led with 14 assists, one more than Hanna ForgeJada Smith had three ace serves and a team-best 20 digs.  Gabi Damiano was credited with 19 digs and Emma Rosonke with 8 blocks.

Five Panthers had five or more kills in the match with Metropolitan, topped by Haley Forge's 9.  Louise Lion and Rosonke picked up 7 each, Damiano 6 and Sydney Clark 5.  Lion had a .429 hitting percentage.  Hanna Forge and Bravo Santos again shared the setting duties with Forge getting 18 assists and Bravo Santos 17.  Damiano paced ECC with her 28 digs, the second-highest total of the season for the sophomore.  Haley Forge added 19 and Smith 17.  Rosonke had 5 blocks.

Damiano led the way at the net in the Glen Oaks match with her 12 kills and .423 hitting percentage.  Hanna Forge had 21 assists and Bravo Santos added 12.  Smith served two aces and had a team-high 13 digs.  Haley Forge chipped in 12 digs.  Rosonke led with six blocks and Clark and Yoliann DeJesus-Tejedor had 4 apiece.

The Panthers got solid setting in the NIACC match with 25 assists from Hanna Forge and 24 from Bravo Santos.  Haley Forge led three double-digit digs totals with 18; Damiano had 17 and Smith 10.  Haley Forge and Damiano paced ECC with 9 kills each.

Ellsworth is at home for its next two matches, starting with Southwestern CC this Wednesday night.
