Ellsworth Community College defeated Emmaus Bible College JV after starting the season with one of the toughest schedules in the country to start the season, facing four highly ranked opponents. 

"We definitely have one of the toughest schedules out of everyone in the country but that's what I like, that's how you get better and that's how we are going to improve ultimately. With a lot of new faces, it's not ideal but it's definitely been a learning curve and an eye opener for what they need to do to improve," ECC coach Sara Jesse said. 

The Panthers knocked off the Eagles at home: 25-23, 25-19 and 25-21.

Monique Vanzin tallied 17 kills and Kaitlyn Baer added nine. Kaitlyn Baer led the team in passes, tallying 11 digs with Vanzin adding nine. Vanzin and Vitoria Kazanovski each had two solo blocks.

That was the first of two straight home matches as the Panthers also hosted Kirkwood Community College the next night. That match went a little differently.

The eighth-ranked Eagles defeated ECC in three straight sets: 25-12, 25-5 and 25-14.

Vanzin led the attack with seven kills against Kirkwood, Baer added four and Keahey three.
