Ellsworth Community College entered the holiday break with a 54-50 road victory over Southeastern Community College.
Both teams struggled offensively to start the game with a combined 13 points in the first quarter. It was the Blackhawks (6-8, 1-5) that led by a narrow 7-6 margin following the first 10 minutes. In the second, ECC had its best quarter. The visitors outscored SCC 15-7 and went into the break with the 21-14 lead. That advantage dissipated throughout the second half, mostly in the final period.
After three quarters, the Panthers led 37-31 before holding on for the four-point victory.
Asia Beale currently leads the team in points per game (13.3) and was one of three in double figures for the visitors. Beale tallied 17 points and eight rebounds. Yaiza Soriano Balaguer poured in 11 points, nabbed nine rebounds and added two blocks on the defensive end of the floor. Claudia Sanz Dorange, who is second on the team with 8.8 points per game, added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Rebounding has been huge for ECC in their wins, averaging 38.9 per game. Sofia Berraquero Beltran added nine and Addy Dennis eight.
