Iowa Falls, IA – The Elllsworth Community College women's basketball team celebrated senior day in style with a rout of visiting Southwestern Community College on Saturday.
Overall, the team shot at a blistering clip from the floor, making 50 percent of its shots (31-62) during a 90-53 victory.
The primary flamethrower for the hosts was Laia Santanach, who made 6-9 three-point attempts on her way to a game high 21 points. She was one of five ECC players to reach double figure scoring, as Ella Sharar added 14 points, and Rosario Mera Panadero added 11. Taylor Ross and Favour Nmecha Anyaele tallied 10 points apiece during the win.
ECC (23-5, 13-4) led the game by five points after the first quarter, but a 22-11 stretch in the second period gave them a 46-30 advantage at the half. The Panthers outscored the visiting Spartans 44-23 in the final two quarters.
The Panthers finished the game with 13 three-point field goals on 27 attempts. On the other side, SWCC shot 38 percent from the floor and was only 2-12 from three-point range.
SWCC currently occupies the basement of the Region XI standings, and Saturday's loss dropped them to 2-25 overall and 1-16 in the league.
With one regular season game left on Wednesday at Northeast Community College, ECC currently occupies second place, one game ahead of NIACC, DMACC and NECC. All three of those teams are 12-5 in league play. Top-ranked Kirkwood already has the regular season title locked up and they are 27-0 and 17-0.
