COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA -- A decisive 3rd quarter allowed 6th-ranked Iowa Western to rally past Ellsworth CC Saturday afternoon. A 3-pointer by Marin Lind Agustsdottir, one of her 4 for the game, just before the halftime buzzer gave ECC a 40-38 lead heading into the locker room. But Iowa Western limited the Panthers to just 8 points in the 3rd period, outscoring them 27-8, to pull away and claim the victory. IWCC scored 15 of the final 17 points of the quarter to open up a big lead after three.
Agustsdottir put up 18 points to lead ECC. She added 5 rebounds and 5 assists and nailed 4-of-5 shots from behind the arc. Taylor Ross poured in 17 points and grabbed a season-high 17 rebounds, the 12th game this season she has had 10 or more boards. Ellyse Ball chipped in 11 points.
Iowa Western owned an 18-17 advantage after one quarter and Ellsworth played a solid 2nd period to garner the halftime lead. But the 3rd quarter turned the tables for the Reivers.
The Panthers are 11-16 overall and 6-12 in the conference and have 2 games remaining in the regular season: at home against Northeast (Neb.) this Wednesday and at Kirkwood the following Wednesday.
