Panther Women Edged by DMACC Despite 2nd Half Rally

IOWA FALLS, IOWA -- A valiant 2nd-half comeback came up short for the ECC women's basketball team in a 74-66 loss to DMACC on Saturday afternoon.  Ellsworth trailed by 15 points at the half, then battled back to tie the score at 50-all and got to within 2 points in the final minute before the Bears cemented the victory at the free throw line.

The Panthers were behind 37-22 at the start of the 3rd quarter, but outscored DMACC 19-12 in the 3rd period.  ECC continued to apply the pressure, gaining a deadlock at 50-50 in the final quarter.  DMACC was able to open up a 7-point advantage, but a Marin Lind Agustsdottir 3-pointer left the Panthers just 2 points down with 45.9 seconds remaining.  DMACC made 6 straight free throws after that to secure the win.

Agustsdottir led all scorers with 28 points before fouling out in the last minute.  She nailed 4 of ECC's 9 threes and added 8 rebounds and 5 assists.  Favour Nmecha Anyaele pumped in 13 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.  Ingrid Martinez Guillen also reached double digits with 12 points and Fabiana Nieves Martinez chipped in 10 off the bench.  Ellsworth's 9 3s tied a season-high.

The Panthers play at Iowa Lakes on Wednesday night.
