Ellsworth Women Win One, Lose One

BRAINERD, MINNESOTA -- After losing a 2-point overtime game to the host school on Friday, the ECC women's basketball team stormed back to gain a split in the weekend tourney in Minnesota.  The Panthers dropped a 63-61 contest to Central Lakes College before routing Minnesota North-Mesabi Range, 72-36.  

Six players, including all 5 starters, scored 8 or more points in the 2nd game, led by Taylor Ross's 17 points.  Ingrid Martinez Guillen and Marin Lind Agustsdottir both dropped in 14 points and Fabiana Nieves Martinez had 9.  Cailin Reimer came off the bench to score 8 points and pull down 12 rebounds, and Favour Nmecha Anyaele grabbed a team-high 13 boards to go along with her 8 points.

The Panthers sprinted to a 27-9 lead after 1 quarter and upped the margin to 41-19 by halftime.  They expanded the advantage to 65-30 after 3 quarters in bouncing back impressively from the disappointing loss to Central Lakes.

Ingrid Martinez Guillen paced ECC in that game with 20 points and she hit 3 3s.  Marin Lind Agustsdottir chipped in 17 points and 4 assists, and Taylor Ross scored 13 and snared 11 rebounds.  She was one of 3 Panthers in double figures in rebounds.   Fabiana Nieves Martinez just missed a double-double with 9 points and 10 boards and Fabour Nmecha Anyaele claimed 12 rebounds.  Ross also had 4 blocks.

The decisive victory against Minnesota North-Mesabi Range allowed the Panthers to even their season record at 4-and-4.  They are idle until hosting Faith Baptist Bible College Nov. 28.
