Panther Women Split at Classic

IOWA FALLS, IOWA -- The Ellsworth CC women's basketball team divided a pair of games in the weekend Dale Howard Classic at Dittmer Gym.  The Panthers defeated Highland (Ill.) CC on Friday, 71-60, before falling to Palm Beach (Fla.) State College, 84-46, Saturday.

Ellyse Ball paced the Panthers in their Friday victory by scoring 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting and she nailed a pair of 3s and pulled down 7 rebounds.  Marin Lind Agustsdottir chipped in 18 points, made 3 3-pointers and handed out 6 assists.  Taylor Ross made her first start of the season and scored 17 points and snagged 16 rebounds.  Ingrid Martinez Guillen also reached double figures in scoring with 11 points and she dished out 8 assists. 

The Panthers ran away to a 35-18 halftime lead on the way to the 2nd win in a row. 

A big 2nd quarter made a huge difference for Palm Beach State in their decision over the Panthers.  The visitors from Florida took a 1-point lead after the 1st period and expanded it by outscoring ECC, 27-9, in the 2nd 10 minutes.  The Panthers made only 31 percent of their field goal attempts.  They were led in scoring by Agustsdottir and Martinez Guillen with 12 points apiece.  Fabiana Nieves Martinez had 6 rebounds and 3 steals and Ross compiled a team-high 8 rebounds.

Ellsworth will have another home contest on Tuesday night when they take on the William Penn junior varsity.
