ECC Women Drop 2 Games to Open Season

MASON CITY, IOWA -- The Ellsworth CC women's basketball team suffered 2 losses in a season-opening classic over the weekend, falling to Black Hawk (Ill.), 72-50, and Bryant & Stratton (Wis.), 73-55.

The Panthers were led in scoring by Ellyse Ball and Favour Nmecha Anyaele with 14 points each.  Ingrid Martinez Guillen added 12, as those 3 players combined for 40 of ECC's points.  Ball and Nmecha Anyaele both pulled down 9 rebounds and Fabiana Nieves Martinez dished out 6 assists.  Black Hawk only shot 29 percent from the field and 24 percent from 3-point range but committed just 12 turnovers to the Panthers's 36 miscues.

Four ECC starters reached double figures in scoring in the 2nd game of the weekend.  Marin Lind Agustsdottir paced the Panthers with 22 points, Ball had 11 and Martinez Guillen 10.  Ball topped Ellsworth on the glass with 11 boards and Martinez Guillen had 10 and Nmecha Anyaele 9.   

Ellsworth faces 3 home games this week:  against the Graceland JV Tuesday and 2 contests in the Dale Howard Classic this weekend.  They'll play Highland (Ill.) Friday and Palm Beach State (Fla.) Saturday.
