Kirkwood Knocks ECC Women Out of Postseason

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA -- For the 3rd time this season, Kirkwood CC got a convincing win against Ellsworth CC, dominating the Panthers, 97-38, Wednesday night.  The latest win for the No. 3-rated Eagles ended the season for the Panthers in the quarterfinals of the Region XI postseason tourney.

Kirkwood shot nearly 55 percent from the field while holding ECC to just 23.5 percent.  The Panthers made only 12-of-51 shots and 8 of their 12 makes were 3s.

The lead for the Eagles was 31-4 after one quarter and 53-16 at intermission.

Shamika Maria hit 3 threes and Ingrid Martinez Guillen 2.  Maria led the Panthers' scoring with 12 points and she and Ashjahnelle Wilson both grabbed 6 rebounds.  Key'Lajaha Jefferson Putman had 4 assists.

Ellsworth ends the season, the first under head coach Justin Rees, with a 6-22 record.
