IOWA FALLS, IOWA -- Iowa Western used its advantage in depth to pull away from Ellsworth in the 2nd half in a 97-54 win at Dittmer Gym Wednesday night.
The Panthers, with only 6 players in uniform, trailed by only 3 points after the opening period (21-18) and were behind 46-33 at the half. But they were held to only 21 points in the final half, just 6 in the last quarter.
Andrea Aragon Garcia was the leading scorer for ECC with 16 points and Key'Lajaha Jefferson Putman added 12. Shamika Maria scored 9.
Ellsworth drilled 10 3-pointers, one shy of their season-high. And their 45.5 percent shooting from behind the arc was the best this season. Both Aragon Garcia and Maria made 3 3s. The Panthers had 16 assists on their 20 made field goals, led by Jefferson Putman's 5, a total matched by Ingrid Martinez Guillen. The only reserve for ECC, Fabiana Nieves Martinez, had 4 points, 3 assists and 2 steals. Arleen Chanez pulled down 5 rebounds.
ECC goes to Norfolk, Neb., to take on Northeast CC on Feb. 8.
