IOWA FALLS, IOWA -- Playing in the regular season for the first time under new head coach Justin Rees, the ECC women's basketball team used a 28-point 3rd quarter to rally and knock off the William Penn junior varsity, 74-65, at Dittmer Gym on Tuesday night.
The Panthers led 21-14 after the opening quarter, but the visitors came back to grab a 36-35 lead at intermission. The huge 3rd period by ECC turned the contest around and the Panthers finished off the game to post the season-opening win.
Ashjahnelle Wilson, also in her first game as a Panther, produced a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Ingrid Martinez Guillen also reached double-digits with 17 points and she handed out 9 assists. Andrea Aragon Garcia tallied 14 points and Arleen Chanez grabbed 9 rebounds.
Ellsworth goes on the road this weekend to play twice in the Konigsmark Klassic, hosted by NIACC. They will meet Minnesota North-Itasca Friday and Black Hawk-Moline on Saturday.
