Panther Women End Season With Loss

MARSHALLTOWN, IOWA -- Marshalltown CC used a couple of first-half runs to open a 40-27 halftime lead and the Tigers went on to record a 74-56 victory against the Ellsworth Panthers in the final game of the season for both teams Tuesday night at the Student Activity Center.

The score was tied at 16-all before MCC ran off seven points in a row to go ahead, 23-16, at the end of the first period.  The hosts then used a 9-0 burst to increase their advantage to 13 by intermission.  The Panthers' season-long problems with turnovers resurfaced in this game with ECC guilty of 28 miscues.  The large number of turnovers along with 14 offensive rebounds allowed Marshalltown to get off 87 shot attempts.  They made only 30 percent.

Alyssa Civitak, who didn't play her first game of the season until Jan. 5, led the Panthers with 21 points.  It was her 12th contest scoring in double figures and she wound up with a 14.8 average.  Halle Miller added 10 points for ECC.  Autumn Shull was strong on the glass the entire year and she picked off 12 rebounds Tuesday, increasing her per-game average to 8.5.

Ellsworth ends the season with a 3-26 record.
