Ellsworth Women Show Improvement, But Lose to Iowa Lakes

ESTHERVILLE, IOWA -- When the Iowa Lakes women's basketball team played Ellsworth on Jan. 8 the Lakers took an 85-46 win in Iowa Falls.  In the rematch on Wednesday night, Iowa Lakes once again scored 85 points, but the Panthers tallied 20 more than they did in the earlier game, but still lost, 85-66.

ECC had just one fewer field goal than the host team, but was outscored by 14 at the foul line.  Ellsworth won the rebound battle, 33-30.  And the Panthers tied for their lowest turnover total this season.  Ellsworth was within striking distance after three quarters, trailing by 12, then Iowa Lakes put the game away with a 26-point 4th period.

Four Panther starters reached double figures, topped by Alyssa Civitak with 15 points.  Halle Miller had 12, Teresa Paulsen 11 and Autumn Shull 10.  The 5th starter, Victoria Parra, dished out 6 assists.  Paulsen led the rebound chart with 8.  Civitak drained 3 3-pointers and Miller made both of her 3-point tries.

The next two games for ECC will be on their home court at Dittmer Gym.  They'll face Southeastern CC on Saturday and Southwestern CC next Wednesday.
