Panther Women Beat SCC at Home

IOWA FALLS, IOWA -- The Ellsworth CC women's basketball team led from start-to-finish in avenging an early-season loss against Southeastern CC, beating the BlackHawks, 80-74, in Dittmer Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.  SCC had knocked off the Panthers, 72-46, on Jan. 30 in West Burlington.  This time around, ECC scored 34 more points than in the earlier matchup and led at each of the quarter stops while posting their second win of the campaign.  They were on top, 16-11, after the first period and widened the gap to 35-24 at intermission.  The lead was 15 going into the final quarter and Ellsworth held off a late rally by SCC to record the victory.

Ellsworth had its best shooting game of the season, making 31-of-65 shots from the floor (48 percent) and 8-of-17 3-point tries (47 percent).  The Panthers showed great balance with six players scoring eight or more points.  Leading the way was Ellie Barrows with 16 points and Autumn Shull with 14.  Barrows made four 3s and Shull recorded a double-double, grabbing 10 rebounds -- five on the offensive glass -- and making 7-of-11 attempts.  There were nine points for Keara Williams, Hydiyah Robinson and Dreasha Talley and eight from freshman Halle Miller.  Robinson connected on all three of her field goal attempts and Miller had a solid all-around game with nine rebounds and four blocks to go along with her eight points.

The Panthers' 20 assists were a season-high as were their eight blocked shots.  They also registered 10 steals.

ECC faces a busy week with three games in days.  They will play at Marshalltown CC on Tuesday and then host Northeast (Neb.) Thursday and Iowa Western Saturday.
