Elllsworth Women's Hoops Team Loses Opener

Norfolk, Nebraska -- A big second half allowed Northeast (Neb.) CC to spoil the season opener for the Ellsworth women on Wednesday night as the Hawks took care of the Panthers by an 88-50 score.

Ellsworth trailed 19-9 after the first quarter, then played NCC nearly even in the second period when they were outscored 19-17 to make it a 12-point game at intermission.  But the Hawks rolled in the second half.

Ellie Barrows led the ECC scoring with 10 points.  She made two of the Panthers' three 3-pointers.  Autumn Shull added nine points and Keara Williams eight.  Halle Miller grabbed nine rebounds to pace ECC in that category.  Ten players saw action for Ellsworth and nine of them scored.  The Panthers had their problems offensively, committing 33 turnovers, but they were strong defensively, holding the Hawks to 40 percent shooting on their home floor.

ECC is back in action next Wednesday when they host Iowa Central CC in the home opener at Dittmer Gymnasium.
