No. 12 Iowa Central sweeps Panthers in softball

Fort Dodge, IA – Ellsworth Community College started on top 4-2 midway through the third frame against 12th-ranked Iowa Central Community College. However, in the bottom half of the inning, the Tritons scored six runs to pull away for the 12-4 win. Iowa Central (41-6, 18-4) won game two 5-1 to take the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference series with three wins out of four. 

Offensively, three of the Panthers (16-26, 5-17) five hits were extra base knocks. Taryn Petty had a two-run home run while Alli Paulsen also had a dinger. Avery Somers had a double. Singles came from Ella Garstang and Miakoda Whitehorse.

Hailey Sheaffer took the loss in the circle. She faced 17 batters and gave up nine hits, eight runs (seven earned) and two home runs. Peytin Clemensen threw the final 1.1 innings and gave up four hits, four runs and walked one.

The Tritons scored the first run of game two before Julissia Arias scored the tying run in the top of the fourth frame. Iowa Central added three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to knock out the visitors. 

ECC had just as many errors (five) as hits in the loss. 

At the dish, Garstang, Emmalee Bell, Somers, Paulsen and Kiera Hochstein all had hits. Angelica Agro took the loss, throwing six innings and allowing six hits, five runs – only one was earned. She walked three and struck out seven.
