No. 12 Eagles fly in softball home sweep over Ellsworth

Iowa Falls, IA – Twelfth-ranked Kirkwood Community College recorded 9-1 and 14-7 wins over Ellsworth Community College on Wednesday. 

The hosts were on top 3-1 heading into the fifth when 12th-ranked Kirkwood erupted for six runs. Peyton Paulsen threw a no-hitter with her lone blemish was a walk that allowed the Panthers (14-18, 3-9) to score their only run in the fourth. Panther Alli Paulsen reached on walks and had one stolen base. 

Angelica Agro took the loss, allowing seven hits, nine runs – five earned – and struck out six. Agro struggled with control, walking six and hitting three batters. 

Game two was much closer. Kirkwood (32-10, 9-3) built a 6-0 lead after two frames when ECC evened the mark at 6-6. The tie was short lived as the hosts responded and scored two in the home half of the frame and outscored the Panthers 8-1 in the final three and a half innings for the 14-7 win.

Five different ECC players had knocks, with Ella Garstang going 2-4 with an RBI. Kendra Rohner had a dinger and three runs batted in. Emmalee Bell, Julissia Arias and Ainsley Brown all had hits in the loss.

The Panthers used two pitchers with Hailey Sheaffer getting the loss. She went 4.2 innings and gave up 10 hits, 10 runs, walked four and fanned four. Peytin Clemensen started the game and went 1.1 innings allowing two hits, four runs and walked four.
