Clermont, FL – Ellsworth Community College is currently 5-4 on the year, playing their first seven games inside. For a chance to play and practice outside, the squad hopped on a plane and will play eight contests in six days in Clermont, Fla. They opened the week going 1-1 on Sunday.
The Panthers continued a five-game win streak with a 20-0 victory over State University of New York Community College Adirondack (SUNY). ECC's offense scored 12 runs in the second and eight in the third to run away with the win in five innings. They tabbed the Timberwolves hurler for 11 hits – including doubles by Julissia Arias and Avery Somers. SUNY Adironack also walked 12 batters on top of their 11 knocks. Sommers was 3-3 for two RBI and Miakoda Whitehorse was 2-2 with three runs batted in.
Earning the win in the circle was Arias, who went three innings and allowed no hits, no runs, walked three and fanned five. Annabelle Nessa threw two innings and gave up two hits, walked one and struck out two.
The Panthers then faced Mott Community College and out-hit the Bears but could not scratch out runs in the 7-1 loss. Mott scored four runs in the second and three in the fourth off just four hits. ECC had two pitchers – Angelica Agro and Peytin Clemensen – that combined for seven walks and just six strikeouts.
Taryn Petty was 2-3 in the batters box. Somers was 1-3 with a run batted in.
The Panthers will play Kishwaukee College and Cuyahoga Community College today (Monday).
