NIACC Sweeps Ellsworth in Softball

MASON CITY, IOWA -- NIACC took all four games in a softball series with Ellsworth CC that spanned 5 days.  The Trojans won 14-1 and 13-0 on April 14 and 12-2 and 15-3 April 18 on their home diamond.

NIACC opened up a 14-0 lead after only 3 innings in the series opener with the Panthers scoring their only run in the 4th inning, scored by Taryn Cory after she had doubled.  That was one of only 5 hits for ECC, the others coming from Maddy Harding, Gracie Pierce, Saige Keller and Kiertsyn Sutton.  Ellsworth committed 6 errors which meant only one of the 10 runs allowed by ECC starting pitcher Keller was earned.  Joceyln Hartley worked 3 innings out of the bullpen.

The Panthers had just 5 hits in the second game, 2 by Sutton and one apiece by Harding, Cory and Pierce.  Lauren Brennan and Hartley did the pitching for ECC.

When the series resumed, Ellsworth got single runs in the 1st and 5th innings, but again lost a game that went only 5 innings.  Harding's homer accounted for one of the runs and she also stole 2 bases.  Emma Gordon and Miranda McClellan singled for the Panthers.  Cory and Hartley shared the pitching chores with each going 2 innings.

After ECC tallied 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning in the series finale, NIACC got runs in all 4 of their at-bats.  Brennan and Cory had 2 hits each and Harding, Gordon, Pierce and Keller one apiece for ECC.  Brennan and Cory picked up RBIs and Harding, Gordon and Pierce all crossed the plate in the very 1st inning.  Keller and Brennan were both charged with 7 runs in the loss.
