Ellsworth Softball Drops 2 at SCC

WEST BURLINGTON, IOWA -- Southeastern CC swept both ends of a Wednesday doubleheader with Ellsworth, beating the Panthers, 8-6 and 13-6.

ECC took an early 4-0 lead in the opener, but SCC plated 5 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning to go ahead.  Ellsworth tied the score at 5-all in the 4th, but 2 in the bottom of the frame gave SCC the advantage for good.  Panther leadoff hitter Maddy Harding went 4-for-5 with a home run and 3 runs scored.  Gracie Pierce notched 3 hits and 2 RBIs, and Lauren Brennan had a pair of hits.  Emma Gordon, Madeline Myer, Katie DeMaio and Taryn Cory each had a hit.  Gordon and Pierce stroked doubles and Myer drove in 2 runs.  Brennan started in the circle and went 4 innings.  Although she was charged with 7 runs, only 2 of them were earned.  Saige Keller finished up with 2 innings.

Southeastern erupted for 13 runs and 17 hits in game two and built an 11-4 lead after 3 innings.  ECC got 2-hit games from Gordon, Brennan, Myer and Pierce, with both of Gordon's hits doubles.  Myer also doubled.  Harding, Keller and Lily Ruiz had the other ECC hits.  Gordon scored twice and Brennan and Keller knocked in 2 runs apiece.  Jocelyn Hartley was the Panthers' starting pitcher and Kierstyn Sutton relieved her in the 3rd inning.  Ruiz threw the final 2 innings and didn't give up a hit or a run.

Ellsworth is scheduled to go on the road this Sunday for a pair of games at Kansas City Kansas CC.
