Brennan Homers Twice, Panthers Split 2 in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA -- Lauren Brennan homered in each game and the Ellsworth softball team divided a pair of games with the Mt. Mercy JV on Friday, ECC winning 5-3 before dropping game two, 12-2.

Brennan's round-tripper in the opener helped Ellsworth to a 5-0 lead.  The hosts plated 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning, but Panther sophomore Delaney Vetter snuffed out the rally and notched the complete-game pitching victory.  She gave up 3 hits and struck out 9.  Meghan Danielson had 3 hits for ECC, including a double, and Brennan also doubled in addition to her home run.  Lauren Abram and Breanna Howard had the other Panther hits and Brennan scored twice and had 3 RBIs.

The long ball by Brennan in the nightcap was her 7th of the year and accounted for one of the two ECC runs.  Sierra Robinson accounted for the other RBI with a double.  Grace Gordon and Howard both singled.  Cheyanne Collins and Asa Kesinger shared the pitching duties, with Collins charged with the defeat.

The Panthers will take on DMACC in a twinbill at home on Sunday.
