Vetter Named Conference Pitcher of the Week

IOWA FALLS, IOWA -- Delaney Vetter, the ace of the Ellsworth softball pitching staff, has been recognized for her stellar work in the circle during the final week of the season by being named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Division II Pitcher of the Week for the period May 3-9.

The freshman righthander from Mayville, Wisconsin, appeared in four games for the week, three of them in the Region XI-B tournament.  Prior to the tourney, Vetter closed out her regular season by firing a two-hit shutout in a 1-0 blanking of NIACC, a game in which she struck out 11.  After a rough outing in the first postseason contest against Iowa Central, a game in which she took the loss, Vetter came back and threw three shutout innings in relief and earned the win against NIACC.  She faced one batter over the minimum and fanned four against the Trojans to keep the Panthers alive in the tournament.  Next, she got a measure of revenge against Iowa Central, beating them 4-1 to get ECC into the title game against Kirkwood.  In the second ICCC matchup, Vetter allowed just one earned run and had nine Ks.

In the week in which she was honored, Vetter whiffed 25 in 20 innings pitched and went 3-and-1.  For the year, she was 2nd in the ICCAC in innings pitched in league play with 126 and 5th in Ks with 126.  She threw 16 complete games.  Vetter ended her freshman season with a 14-14 record and struck out 175 batters in 169 innings.
