Big 7th Inning Leads to Ellsworth Softball Sweep

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA -- A six-run 7th inning in game two allowed the ECC softball team to complete a sweep of the Mt. Mercy junior varsity on Thursday.  The Panthers entered the final inning in a 7-7 tie and then batted around to gain their 14th win of the season, 13-7.  Ellsworth had grabbed a 6-1 decision in the opener.

Gintare Paskocimaite, the ECC leadoff hitter, enjoyed a huge day at the plate, going 3-for-4 in both games.  She scored a total of six runs and drove in four and homered and doubled in game one.  Chloe Roberts was 3-for-3 in the first contest, scored a run, knocked in one and tripled.  Chelsea Buck had a double and two RBIs and Gwen Hovorka had one RBI.  Delaney Vetter contributed a strong pitching performance in notching her 8th win.  She allowed only four hits and an unearned run with nine Ks.

The Panthers pounded out 16 hits in the second game.  In addition to three by Paskocimaite, Kaysee Dale, Buck, Ally Sparks, Mya Mathes, Maggie Braniff and Roberts had two apiece.  Roberts scored three times and Dale two.  Sparks picked up four RBIs and Buck three.  Roberts went the first four innings and gave way to Cheyanne Collins, who provided three scoreless innings, permitting only three hits in her 4th win of the spring.

Four games at DMACC are next on the schedule for ECC -- doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday in Boone.
