Kirkwood Takes Two From ECC Softball

IOWA FALLS, IOWA -- Kirkwood CC scored in double-digits in both games in sweeping a doubleheader from Ellsworth on Wednesday, winning 15-1 and 13-6.

The score was 4-1 in favor of the Eagles before they put away the opener with 11 runs in the 5th inning.  The Panthers scored a first-inning run on a double by Chelsea Buck followed a single by Gwen Hovorka, but those were the only hits for ECC.  Kirkwood slugged six home runs against Panthers pitcher Chloe Roberts who took the loss.

Ellsworth started fast in game two, tallying three runs in the 1st inning and two more in the 2nd to take a 5-2 lead after two.  They were shut out after that, however, until Gintare Paskocimaite's solo homer in the 6th.  Buck doubled twice and knocked in a pair of runs and Paskocimaite also had two hits and she scored two runs.  Hovorka picked up a couple of RBIs and Kailey Becker stroked a double.  Four ECC errors meant six of the KCC runs were unearned.  After their six home runs in the opener, the Eagles had three more in the nightcap.  Cheyanne Collins went the distance in the circle for ECC.

The Panthers look to get back on track when they play a doubleheader in Cedar Rapids against the Mount Mercy JV on Thursday.
