Iowa Falls, IA –
Visiting Southwestern Community College may have finished with a better shooting percentage than the Ellsworth Community College men's basketball team, but the difference in the game may have been the success rate at the three-point line.
The Spartans made 46 percent of its field goals compared to just 38 percent from the Panthers, but the hosts outscored the visitors 30-6 from beyond the arc. ECC finished 10-38 while SWCC was just 2-16 through two halves. That led to a 89-83 win for the Panthers on senior day.
ECC led the game 39-30 at the half when the scoring increased for both teams. SWCC scored 53 points in the second half, but allowed 50 to the Panthers and could not make up the difference.
Taevean Famutimi-Brown scored 20 points to lead the way for the winners, and was one of six Panthers in double figures. Rollings Kamanda added 14 and Tre Burris another 11 in the win. Quez Curry Jr. and Enki Diarra-Gentes each poured in 11 apiece and Tanner Berggren tallied 10.
The win improved ECC to 19-10 overall and 9-8 in Region XI, while the Spartans fell to 10-19 and 4-13. The Panthers are currently in a three-way tie for third place with Iowa Central and Iowa Western, and the regular season ends on Wednesday at Northeast Community College.
The Panthers hold the tiebreaker over the Tritons and Reivers. The top two teams remain DMACC (27-2, 16-1) and Kirkwood (26-2, 15-2)
