Cedar Rapids, IA – Kirkwood Community College (23-2, 12-2) won every statistical category in the 110-60 win over Ellsworth Community College on Thursday.
From the tip, Kirkwood flew out to a 13-0 lead. ECC (17-9, 7-8) finally got on the board with more than three minutes off the clock, on three freebies by Rav Randhawa. Their first field goal was by Tanner Berggren with 15:45 on the clock. The difference was manageable and just 10 points through the first half of the opening 20 minutes. A long ball by the Eagles jumpstarted a 16-2 run by the hosts. Enki Diarra-Gentes ended the drought but the Panthers still found themselves down 54-29 at the break. ECC shot 27 percent from the floor in the opening half and were just three of 12 from beyond the arc. Kirkwood on the other hand were 52.9 percent and hit eight threes in the first half.
The second half started out with much of the same as the Eagles went on a 12-1 run, only ended by a Diarra-Gentes make.
The Panthers were recorded for 15 turnovers, including 10 Kirkwood steals, and nabbed just 27 rebounds - nine second chance shots - while shooting 31 percent for the game. The hosts also only had nine offensive rebounds, but grabbed 30 on the defensive end. They also shot at a 61 percent clip so offensive boards were few and far between.
Randhawa led the visitors with 17 points, Diarra-Gentes added 12 and Eesher Singh Sarai had 10.
