Ellsworth Men Nip Iowa Western

IOWA FALLS, IOWA -- When Ellsworth and Iowa Western opened the ICCAC schedule back in early December, the Panthers owned a 4-point halftime lead and at one point led by double digits, only to see the Reivers come back to claim the victory.  In the rematch at Dittmer Gym Wednesday night, it was ECC that made the necessary plays down the stretch to avenge that December loss in a tense 60-59 win.  The Panthers are 10-1 on their home court and 17-6 overall while pushing their conference record to 6-5.

Dior Davis, who posted a double-double in the first Iowa Western game, filled up the stat sheet in this Ellsworth decision, leading the Panthers in scoring and rebounding with 13 and 8, respectively.  Davis also contributed 4 assists, 3 blocks and 3 steals.  Ezekiel Thompkins was the only other ECC player in double digits with 10 points.  The Panthers continue to lead the country in blocked shots with an average of 10.0 per game and they swatted 12 against the Reivers, led by Issakha Niang's 5.  They made only 2 of their 17 3-point attempts, but in a one-point victory, obviously, they were both huge.  One of the 3s was by 7-footer Saliou Seye and the other by Tarik Islamovic, just his 6th of the season.

Iowa Western shot only 31 percent from the field and hit only 4-of-19 3-point tries.  Eleven of the 12 Ellsworth players who saw action scored.

The Panthers have a week off before taking on Northeast CC in Nebraska on Feb. 8.
