Iowa Falls, IA – Boston Doeschot connected for a pair of home runs and drove in four, but it was not enough to give Ellsworth Community College a Region XI win on the diamond Thursday afternoon.
Hosting Indian Hills Community College (16-16, 10-5) for a solo nine-inning contest, it was the Warriors outhitting the Panthers 17-13 and outscoring them by an 18-13 final.
The visitors led 4-3 after two frames and 8-6 after five. A couple of four-run spots in the seventh and ninth innings gave IHCC an 18-8 lead entering the bottom of the ninth.
The Panthers made it interesting with a five-run ninth, but fell short of the comeback.
Doeschot continues his impressive season at the dish, as he finished 3-5 with the two dingers. Sam Patton also left the yard for a homer and finished 3-5 with a double and two knocked in. Dillon Carlson was 3-5 with a three-bagger and two RBI.
ECC's pitching staff did not fare as well as a collective group. Seven pitchers were used to get 27 outs, but the staff only recorded two strikeouts in the game. Drew Drake was the second pitcher to appear on the bump and he took the loss after recording just one out and giving up one earned run.
The loss drops ECC to 20-18 overall and 7-10 in Region XI.
The Panthers are scheduled to play a three-game set on the road at Iowa Lakes in Estherville on Saturday and Sunday.
