Panthers Settle For Split vs. MCC

WEST BURLINGTON, IOWA -- Ellsworth used an extra-base barrage to wallop Marshalltown CC in the opening game, but couldn't hold onto a lead and let the 2nd game slip away in a Sunday twinbill.  The Panthers won 14-0, then lost 17-15.

Of ECC's 11 hits in the 1st game, 7 went for extra bases, including home runs from Gabriel Monosmith and Justin RoitmanLuke Saxton and Jean Melean both doubled twice and Riley Schrader, Dariel Colon and Max Watson also had 2-base hits.  Monosmith had 3 RBIs and Schrader and Roitman both had 2.  Watson scored three times and Schrader, Colon and Saxton each scored twice.  Brandon Weigel drew 3 walks, scored a run, drove in one and had a stolen base.  Brock Adamson and Hunter Brown combined on the shutout, Adamson working the 1st 4 frames and Brown finishing up.  They allowed only 2 hits and struck out 7, 6 of them by Adamson.

Ellsworth was seemingly in control in game 2, leading 15-10 going into the bottom of the 7th.  That's when MCC pushed across 7 runs and hung on for the win.  ECC had 3 4-run innings.  Tanner Short had a tremendous game at the plate for the Panthers, going 5-for-6, with all 5 of his hits doubles.  He scored 3 runs, knocked in 2 and stole a pair of bases.  Monosmith homered again and Watson went deep too.  Colon had a triple and Monosmith, Roitman and Saxton all doubled.  Monosmith scored 3 runs, Schrader, Colon and Roitman 2 apiece.  Watson drove in 4 and Colon 3.  The Panthers used 6 pitchers.  Boston Doeschot was the starter and gave way to Jake EnglishAlex Stewart, Casey Clair, Luke Greth and Jaxson Cornett followed English to the hill.  Clair took the loss.
