ECC Baseball Takes 3 of 4 at North Central Missouri

TRENTON, MISSOURI -- The Ellsworth CC baseball team won the first 3 games of its series with North Central Missouri College before dropping the finale.  ECC won 6-3 and 7-3 on Sunday and 14-12 in Monday's first game before losing 12-6.  The Panthers came out of the series with an 11-8 record.

A winning 3-run 7th inning snapped a 3-all tie in the series opener after Ellsworth had knotted the score with a run in the 6th.  Gabriel Monosmith led the offense with 3 hits and 2 runs scored.  Brandon Weigel had 2 hits, 2 runs and and a solo home run.  Riley Schrader also homered and walked twice and Boston Doeschot had a double.  ECC plated runs on sac flies from Tanner Short and Max WatsonBrock Adamson started on the mound and went 5 innings, giving up 5 hits and 1 earned run with 3 walks and 4 Ks.  Justin Roitman and Alex Stewart each pitched an inning of relief, Stewart earning a save.

The Panthers tallied 4 runs in the top of the 1st on the way to their victory in game 2.  Schrader slammed a pair of homers, knocked in 4 runs, scored 3 and walked twice.  Dariel Colon stroked a pair of doubles and had an RBI and Roitman homered.  He, Weigel and Monosmith all drew 2 walks and Monosmith scored 2 runs.  Luke Greth gave the Panthers 6 innings as the starting pitcher, permitting 5 hits and 1 earned run with a couple of strikeouts.  Jaxson Cornett finished up in the 7th.

Monday's opener was a slugfest.  ECC trailed 7-2 before plating 7 runs in the 5th inning, then added 1 in the 6th and 4 in the 7th.  They matched their 14 runs with 14 hits, 3 of them by Schrader.  Max Watson had a 3-hit game and knocked in 4 runs.  Roitman had a home run and 3 RBIs.  Carson Agan chipped in 2 hits, 2 walks and 2 runs.  Ellsworth used 6 pitchers.  Doeschot opened and was followed to the hill by Hunter Brown, Cornett, Jake English, Owen Norris and Stewart.  Norris got 5 outs and earned his 1st win of the season.

All 6 ECC runs in the series finale were scored in the 3rd inning, tying the score at 6-all.  North Central Missouri pushed across the final 6 runs, 4 in the bottom of the 3rd.  The Panthers hurt themselves with 5 errors, making only half of the 12 runs allowed earned.  Luke Christensen, Luke Kalhorn, Karter Beving and Carter Arends did the pitching for ECC and all of them gave up a run and struck out at least 2.  Offensively, 7 different players accounted for the 7 hits and the 6 runs were scored by 6 different guys.  Roitman and Agan had 2 RBIs each.  Aidan Nigh doubled, Colon tripled and Agan had a home run.
