Panthers' Offense Erupts Against State Fair

SEDALIA, MISSOURI -- After dropping the first game of a 4-game weekend series with State Fair CC, the Ellsworth bats came to life, outscoring the Roadrunners 32-5 in the next 3 contests to take the series.  State Fair claimed the opener on Saturday, 7-2, then it was ECC winning 13-3, 12-1 and 7-1.

Ellsworth was held to 5 hits in game one, 2 by Gabriel Monosmith and 1 each by Boston Doeschot, Justin Roitman and Luke SaxtonDariel Colon and Saxton scored the runs, which were knocked in by Monosmith and Jose RocheBrock Adamson started and went 2 2/3 innings.  He was followed to the mound by Jake English, Owen Norris and Hunter Brown.  

ECC managed a split in the first doubleheader of the weekend, scoring in every inning but the 3rd on the way to the 10-run rout.  Riley Schrader homered twice and Tanner Short also went deep and he scored 4 runs.  Monosmith and Jean Melean scored twice each.  Schrader had 4 RBIs and 2 runs.  Roche, Short, Colon, Melean and Doeschot all drove in a pair of runs.  Roche and Melean had 2 stolen bases apiece.  Luke Greth, the starter, got the win after working 3 innings.  Roitman, Jaxson Cornett, Alex Stewart and Casey Clair all threw an inning of relief.

Sunday began with the Panthers getting at least 1 run in all 5 innings.  The 2 pitchers -- Doeschot and Dominic Wade -- permitted just 3 hits and a single run.  Doeschot worked the first 4 innings and pitcked up his 2nd victory of the spring.  Schrader had another home run and Short and Monosmith also had long balls.  Brandon Weigel picked up 2 doubles and Roitman and Saxton had 1 each.  Colon stroked a single, double and triple.  Schrader produced his 2nd straight game with 4 RBIs, Short got 3 and Monosmith 2.  Weigel was 4-for-4 and scored 3 times in a 16-hit attack.

The second game saw 11 more hits for ECC.  The top 3 hitters in the order -- Weigel, Monosmith and Short -- combined for 6 hits, 4 runs and 5 RBIs.  Short had his 2nd homer of the series, and he and Aidan Nigh both tripled.  There were doubles by Weigel, Monosmith, Saxton, Melean and Max Watson.  Again, the Ellsworth pitching was stout.  Luke Christensen started and went 5 strong innings, allowing 2 hits and a run.  Cornett and Stewart got in an inning out of the bullpen.

The Panthers ended the weekend with an 8-7 record.  They'll got to North Central Missouri for 4 games next Saturday and Sunday.
