
FORT SCOTT, KANSAS -- The Ellsworth CC baseball team lost all 3 games in a weekend series on the road against Fort Scott CC. The Greyhounds won 7-4 Saturday and 6-3 and 5-0 on Sunday.
The home team got things started with 4 runs in the 2nd inning of Saturday's contest. ECC got to within 6-4 with a 3-run 7th, but got no closer in the 9-inning game. The Panthers hurt themselves with 4 errors leading to 4 unearned runs. Starting pitcher Brock Adamson deserved a better fate, giving up only 1 earned run and striking out 7 in 5 innings. Luke Kalhorn, Jake English and Owen Norris all pitched an inning of relief. The Panthers collected 6 hits, 2 of them by Boston Doeschot. Luke Saxton's double was the lone extra base hit. Carson Agan knocked in 2 runs and Tanner Short and Saxton 1 each. Scoring runs for ECC were Doeschot, Brandon Weigel, Saxton and Jean Melean.
Another 4-run inning, this time in the 3rd, set the tone for the 1st game Sunday. Short provided a pair of hits and a run for Ellsworth, and Max Watson and Melean had RBIs. Saxton stroked another double for the only extra base hit. Doeschot started and allowed 3 earned runs in 2 innings. Karter Beving, Hunter Brown, Luke Christensen and English each worked an inning and only Christensen didn't permit a run.
The Panthers were blanked on 6 hits in the finale. Fort Scott scored all of its runs in the 1st 3 innings. ECC hits were by Dariel Colon (a double), Short, Doeschot, Gabriel Monosmith, Weigel and Christensen. The Panthers stranded 11 baserunners. Again, 5 pitchers saw action. Luke Greth started and took the loss. Justin Roitman, Casey Clair, Jaxson Cornett and Alex Stewart came on in relief. Three ECC errors resulted in 3 unearned runs.
Ellsworth goes back to Kansas for 4 games with Allen County CC next Saturday and Sunday.
