ECC Baseball Falls in Sunday Matinee at Iowa Central

FORT DODGE, IOWA -- Iowa Central jumped out to an 11-2 lead after 2 innings and went on to finish off the Ellsworth Panthers by a final score of 15-5 on Sunday.

The Panthers scored their runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings -- 2 in the 2nd and 3 the following inning, but the Tritons' quick start was too much to overcome.

ECC's offensive attack featured a 2-run homer by Javier Melendez and doubles by Isaac Boley, Jose Valentin and Bryce Hall.  In addition to Melendez's home run, Valentin had 2 RBIs and Hall knocked in the other Ellsworth run.  The runs were scored by Boley, Valentin, Hall, Melendez and Fabian Dumey.  Three of their 8 hits were recorded by Hall.

Miguel Baez started for ECC and was tagged with 11 runs, all earned.  The Panthers got strong relief outings from lefties Cade Armstrong, who gave up just one run and struck out 3 in his 3 1/3 innings, and Gavin Busby, who pitched a scoreless frame and fanned one.  Willian Figueroa finished up in the 7th.

The Panthers play a doubleheader at Marshalltown CC on Wednesday afternoon.
