Panther Baseball Nipped by Indian Hills

CENTERVILLE, IOWA -- Jose Valentin's solo home run helped Ellsworth tie the game in the top of the 9th inning, but Indian Hills used a squeeze bunt to bring home the game-winning tally in the bottom of the 9th for a walk-off 7-6 win on Thursday.  The Panthers dropped the one-run decision despite outhitting the Warriors, 13-7, and overcoming an early 4-0 deficit.

Indian Hills scored 3 runs in the 3rd inning to build the 4-0 advantage.  Ellsworth got half of those runs back on Bryce Hall's bases-loaded, 2-run double in the 4th.  Javier Melendez delivered a 2-run single the next inning to knot the score at 4-all.  After IHCC went on top 6-4 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 8th, ECC got even in the 9th on Valentin's homer to left and JT Kostenbauer's single that knocked in Hall.  Indian Hills then won it in their 9th inning against ECC reliever Jonathan RosadoCharlie Jaeger started on the mound for the Panthers and allowed only two earned runs in his 6 innings of work.  Derihan Suero faced only one batter and Jason Moist went two innings before Rosado finished up.

Leading Ellsworth's 13-hit attack was Elio Narvaez with 3 hits.  Isaac Boley, Valentin, Melendez and Kostenbauer all had 2-hit games.  Valentin scored twice and Zeb Wede had a hit, a run scored and walked two times.

The Panthers go on the road Saturday to take on Iowa Lakes.
