Four From Ellsworth Earn All-Region Baseball Recognition

IOWA FALLS, IOWA -- Ellsworth CC placed three players on the All-Region XI baseball teams announced by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference and the Panthers also had the best defensive player in the region.  Sophomore Carlos Aranda represented the Panthers on the All-Region First Team, freshman Trey Morris was a Second Team pick and sophomore Kainoa Torres made the Honorable Mention list.  In addition, sophomore TJ Truso was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year.

These are the season statistics for the ECC baseball standouts and comments from head coach Samuel Vega:

Carlos Aranda -- led the Panthers in nearly every offensive category, batting .367 with nine home runs and 50 RBIs while being named the designated hitter on the all-region first team; he also produced 46 runs scored, 112 total bases, a .456 on-base percentage, a .596 slugging percentage and showed a great combination of power and speed with his 22 stolen bases.  Coach Vega said:  "Carlos was great for us this year and it was great to have his hitting ability in our lineup every single game; Carlos worked extremely hard all offseason and I am glad it paid off."

Trey Morris -- batted .330 with extra-base power, slamming 14 doubles and five homers; he had 26 RBIs, 38 runs scored, a .416 on-base percentage and a .482 slugging percentage and made the All-Region second team as an infielder.  Coach Vega said: "Trey was a huge part of the lineup all year long.  He competed every day for us and gave us quality at-bat after quality at-bat.  Trey's work ethic is top notch and we look forward to working with him this fall and seeing what he can do for us next season."

Kainoa Torres -- had a .274 batting average with eight doubles, five homers and 26 RBIs and was an Honorable Mention choice as an All-Region outfielder; he also supplied a .359 on-base percentage and a .478 slugging percentage.  Coach Vega said: "Kainoa constantly found ways to try and help us win every day.  Some days he was great defensively, other days he was great on the bases, and other days he was just crazy hot at the plate.  This kid gave us 100 percent every single day and worked extremely hard for us."

TJ Truso -- sported a .952 fielding percentage (.960 in conference games) and had a hand in 15 double plays in winning league defensive POY honors; was also second on the team in stolen bases with 15.  Coach Vega said: "It's not every year you get to have the best defensive shortstop in the league, maybe even in the country.  It's a great feeling when you know a ball is going to be caught and we all got that feeling every time the ball was hit to TJ."
