"Coach Austin is a high character and hard-working coach that will bring instant credibility to our program. Having played JUCO, NCAA DI, and professionally he brings an established pedigree and background that will bring a wealth of knowledge to share with our players and staff. He has climbed the ranks as a player, as a Graduate Assistant, as and assistant coach at the prep level, and now at the collegiate level and we are grateful to have him on board!" said  Bender.

Austin spent the last two seasons at Middle Georgia Prep where he served as an assistant coach.  He was responsible for skill development, academics, strength and conditioning as well as serving as a lead recruiter for the program. 

Prior to Middle Georgia Prep, Austin spent the 2020-21 season at Andrew College, a NJCAA DI program in Georgia, where he assisted in practice planning and recruiting visits as well as preparing scouting reports. He also spent one season as a graduate assistant coach at Reinhardt University in Georgia where he earned his master's degree in Sports Administration and Leadership.

Before joining the coaching ranks, Austin enjoyed a great career as a player.  He attended South Georgia State for 3 seasons under Head Coach Cory Baldwin. "I am excited for Mont to be joining such a great program. He has always overachieved on the court and in the classroom as an athlete, and he continues to work on his resume as a coach, which I think he is growing in so much and will really take big steps while working for coach Bender" said Coach Baldwin.

After completing his JUCO eligibility, Austin signed with NCAA DI Jacksonville University in the Atlantic Sun Conference where he played for current SFA Assistant Tony Jasick.  Coach Jasick was quoted as saying, "What a great hire! Mont is a tremendous person with a high-level work ethic.  He will be a huge asset to Ellsworth both on and off the floor."  Austin's playing career also includes one season of professional basketball in El Salvador playing for Liga Mayor Baloncestro.
