ECC Men’s Basketball adds Sims and Urness to 2018-19 roster

Ellsworth Community College men's basketball has added Devontae Sims and Sam Urness to the 2018-19 roster.

Urness, a 5'8" guard from Clarion, will be solid for the Panthers this coming season. He averaged 18 points per game as well as 5.4 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game in high school. He shot 46.5% from the field, 41.5 from the three point range, and 65.1 from the free throw line.

Urness was awarded two-time 2nd Team All-Conference, 1st Team All-Conference and finished his high school career with 1105 points. He also holds the school record at Clarion-Goldfield for career and single season points, career and single season assists, career and single season steals and free throws made.

"Sam is an experienced point guard who knows how to run a team," says ECC Head Basketball Coach Troy Muilenburg. "He was a four-year starter for Clarion-Goldfield High School."

Sims, a 6'2" forward from Rockford, IL, will be tough match up for other teams. He averaged 11 rebounds per game, which was just six rebounds away from setting the school record for rebounds in a season. He also averaged 10.8 points per game his senior year.

As well as his talent on the court, Sims excelled in other sports in high school. He was three sport All-Conference Player in basketball, football and track.  He was awarded football Northern Illionois Conference Defensive MVP and this summer Devontae was named the Northern Illinois/Register Star Male Athlete of the Year.

"Devontae is a player who can contribute in so many ways," adds Muilenburg. "He is a tough physical defender on the perimeter and in the post. He is also an extremely good rebounder. Both of these players will add to the depth of our team."
