This award is presented annually by Mr. and Mrs. Roger Mather, Parents of Rod Mather. Rod, an outstanding football player at Ellsworth Community College in 1974 and 1975 before transferring to the University of Northern Arizona, died while saving a friend from drowning in August of 1977.

This award is presented each year to the football player who displays top leadership qualities as well as football ability.
