Panthers Lose Defensive Battle in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS -- Arkansas Baptist got the only score of the game in the 4th quarter and defeated visiting Ellsworth CC, 6-0, Saturday afternoon.

Both defenses were outstanding in the early-season matchup but the Buffaloes broke through for the win that left each team with a season record of 1-1.

The ECC offense was limited to 91 net yards and punted 11 times.

On a day when their offense struggled to put together drives, the ECC defense came up big, picking off four ABC passes and recording four sacks.  Daveion Crawford, Jonathan Forson, Tanner Cromer and TJ Bailey all had interceptions.  The sacks belonged to Andrew Behm, DeAundre Brown, Davon Sears and Forson.  In all, the Panthers D had seven TFLs.

After a solid opening-game win against the Grand View JV, ECC QB Jadin Daniels completed only 7-of-26 pass attempts for 22 net yards and threw one interception.  Daniels found some running room, going for 76 yards on 18 carries.  As a team, however, the Panthers gained just 69 yards rushing in 30 tries.  Of the seven receptions, Donmonic Perks caught three and Jermaine Thurmond and Deablo McGee two apiece.

The Panthers will travel to Council Bluffs to take on Iowa Western next Friday night at 7:00 for their 3rd straight road contest to begin the season.
