The Ellsworth Community College football team traveled to Coffeyville Community College on Saturday and came home with its first win of the season, a 30-16 victory.

Sophomore quarterback Paris Chambers was the leading force for the Panthers. Chambers tallied two touchdown runs as well as passing for two touchdowns.

During the first quarter the Panthers jumped on the scoreboard with 29-yard and 54-yard runs by Chambers. Jack Lemke made the extra points with both touchdowns as the Panthers jumped out to a 14-0 lead. Both teams were scoreless in the second quarter.

Lemke was the first on the board in the second half, with a 23-yard field goal kick to add 3 to the Panthers score early in the third quarter. That Panther field goal turned out to be the only scoring for either team that quarter.

Coffeyville tried to fight back with two touchdowns in the fourth, but it was no match for the Panthers as they scored two more touchdowns of their own on a 49-yard pass from Chambers to Drew Greenhaw and a 60-yard pass from Chambers to Dyrrah Christon to make the final 30-16.

Chambers rushed for a total of 176 yards and completed 12 of 19 passes for a total of 179 yards along with his two touchdowns. He was followed in rushing by Tekendrick Roberson, who had 123 yards. Greenhaw led the receivers with a total of 66 yards, followed closely by Christon, who had 64 yards; each made it into the end zone to score.

Robert Odeneal, Naeem Smith and Sam Gerst led the Panther defense with 5 total tackles each. Odeneal and Smith each had 5 solo tackles. Jahid Beamon and Keonte Schad each had .5 sacks and Smith and Trase Fezzia each grabbed an interception.

This marks the first time the Panthers have defeated Coffeyville under Head Coach Jesse Montalto. Under Montalto's guidance, the Panthers have defeated every school in the Jayhawk conference.

The Panthers will host Iowa Central Community College on Saturday, Sept. 9, at noon for their season home opener.
