Homecoming win for the Panthers

Ellsworth Community College Panthers got a 29-10 win over Independence Community College for their homecoming victory. 

The Panthers started out the game slow with a 6-yard rushing touchdown from Ethan Barnett being their only touchdown in the first half. ECC defense was able to keep Independence with only 10 points for the first half as well. 

The Panthers came out strong in the second half. Juwan Pettit-Frere had a safety for two points with a tackle on a bad punt snap. Quarterback Lamont Toney had a one-yard rushing touchdown followed by a 27-yard receiving touchdown from Toney to Jamarius Way. The final touchdown of the game for the Panthers was by Tekendrick Roberson who had a 7-yard rushing touchdown.

"This was a good team win for us," commented ECC Head Football Coach Jesse Montalto. "We won all three faces of the game, offense, defense and kicking. The kids played hard in the second half to get the win."

Starting quarterback, Toney, had 91 passing yards for the game and one touchdown. Barnett led the team in rushing with 78 yards and a touchdown. Roberson was close behind with 64 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Way was leading receiver with 62 yards, averaging 20.7 per possession and one touchdown. Devon Russell was leading kickoff returner with 64 yards.

Ryan Guthrie continues to lead the Panthers defense with 12 total tackles and 8 of those being solo. Javonte Arius followed with 10 tackles (3 for loss) with 9 being solo and Nikolas Ricks with 10 tackles and 7 of those being solo.

Reggie Miles registered 3 sacks. Louy Compton also had 1 sack and a forced fumble. Jadarius Byrd had 1 interception.

The Panthers will be on the road for their next game against Hutchinson Community College on Saturday, Oct. 15 with a noon kickoff. They will return home on Saturday, Oct. 22 to take on Fort Scott Community College at 1 pm.
