Panther football dominates DuPage

The Panther football team came to play on Saturday, Oct. 1 when they travelled to Glen Ellyn, IL to take on #16 College of DuPage. ECC won the matchup 21-7. Defense for ECC allowed only one touchdown in the game, which occurred in the 1st quarter.

Lamont Toney, who returned for his first game after being injured early in the season, threw for 164 yards. Paris Chambers also threw for ECC with 31 yards.

Scoring break down for the Panthers included a 61-yard pass from Toney to Marcel Williams to get ECC on the board in the first quarter. The Panthers scored another touchdown in the second quarter and one in the fourth quarter. Nikolas Ricks forced a fumble and it was returned for 2-yards by Michael Maher for a touchdown. Ethan Barnett had a 6-yard run for the final touchdown for ECC. 

Barnett lead the Panthers for rushing with 69 yards followed by Toney who had 54 yards. Williams led the team with 87 receiving yards averaging 14.5 per possession.

Ryan Guthrie continues to lead the Panther defense with 14 total solo tackles, 5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Guthrie is leading the conference in tackles per game with 12.8. He has had 64 total tackles on the year.

Elijah Jones, Javonte Arius and Devon Russell registered one interception each. Louy Compton had one sack.

"We played well this game. This was a good team win," commented ECC Head Football Coach Jesse Montalto. "We had zero turnovers and forced five."

This win marks the third time in three years Coach Montalto has led ECC to victory over a Top 25 ranked opponent.

The Panthers will host Independence Community College on Saturday, Oct. 8 for ECC Homecoming. Kickoff will be at 1:00 pm.
