ECC football loses in close game with Garden City

The Ellsworth Community College football team lost in a close 36-30 decision against Garden City Community College on Saturday, Sept. 13.

Garden City scored first, but ECC came back quick with a 59-yard pass from Mitch Wieland to Tyrian Taylor. The after kick was good by Dayton Balvanz to tie up the score. Garden City scored two more touchdowns before ECC came back with a 29-yard field goal by Balvanz to bring the score to 21-10 going into halftime.

The Panthers started the second half of the game strong with an interception by Angelo Sumler for a touchdown, and the extra point was good. ECC took the lead for the first time in the game with a completed pass from Taylor to Demetrius Harper for a 33-yard touchdown to make the score 24-21. The Panthers kept their lead with Sumler recovering a fumble and running in the touchdown, 30-23.

Garden City had back-to-back touch downs to take away the win from the Panthers.

Turnovers plagued the Panthers, with 7 in the game (five of those on fumbles). Garden City outgained the Panthers 533-344 yards.
 
The Panthers' next game will be at home, Saturday, Sept. 20, against Highland Community College at 1 pm.
