ECC volleyball wins in 3 for first conference win

The Ellsworth Community College volleyball team came out strong on Wednesday, Oct. 14, with its first conference win over Southeastern Community College. The Panthers won in just three games, 25-15, 25-21 and 25-12.

Sophomore Mary Goergen again led the Panthers in their win; she tallied 12 kills, 5 aces and 8 digs for the night. Paola Soto led the defense with 17 digs and an ace. Tiffany Jacobson and April Jones also came up big for the Panthers: Jacobson had 9 kills, 2 digs and 2 total blocks, and Jones had 6 kills, 3 aces and 6 total blocks.

"The girls had a good night and their first conference win this year, which is exciting," commented ECC Head Volleyball Coach Ashley Clark. "We played some tough teams early on that helped us prepare for matches at this point in the season. I was especially happy that our free ball transitions were crisp and effective throughout the night and the girls did a great job minimizing errors, which we clearly saw by the score in set 3."

ECC will be on the road on Oct. 15 at Indian Hills and will host NIACC on Monday, Oct. 19, for their final home game. Both games will begin at 7 pm.
